Movie: My Sister's Keeper

One of the most emotional and inspiring movies- My Sister’s Keeper brought tears rolling down my cheeks. Living in a dysfunctional family, where maintaining Kate’s life brought the greatest plight faced by the Fitzgerald family.

Kate suffers from a autoimmune deficiency – an acute acute promyelocytic leukemia. In order to save her, Anna is designed under a pre-implantation genetic diagnosis to be a spare part for Kate, donating lymphocytes, bone marrow and anything that Kate’s body needs.

Sara and Brian, Kate’s protective parents undergo a transformation of their lives when they decide to have Anna. The quality of family lives changes with their kids, Kate, Jesse and Anna facing challenges in their part of their lives and the struggle to maintain happiness within this family. Sara resigned to spend 100% of her time to make Kate’s life healthy, germ-free environment and everyday organic food. The process of taking care of Kate undermines Jesse, who is dyslexic. Most importantly, Anna who underwent 8 hospitalisations in 11 years, multiple catheterizations, bone marrow aspiration and stem cell purges. Brian who believes that as parents, they pushed Anna too far and she doesn’t deserves such treatment in her life. Al those rewards and encouragement to drive Anna to help her sister were never ethical.

At 11, Anna is indignant and decides to sue her parents when she was required to donate her kidney to Kate, who suffers from renal failure. It was a comeuppance in which Brian deemed.  The foundation of happiness starts to crack as more truths are unfolded in the family. The case is being brought to court to deal with this complex issue. They talked about the sanity of having a donor child, the process of saving Kate and in the end everyone seems as confused as Anna. They could not come up with a real answer and they never will understand the pain faced by Anna in making this turning point decision.

This family theme movie based on the novel with the same name written by Jodi Picoult introduces a high-concept of the struggle faced by the Fitzgeralds. This is where the crossroad of family wounds and medical healing intersect and baffle a child. This movie brings a strong compelling premise that will sure bring tears to viewers. I personally felt gratuitous after watching and the strong performance of the actors portraying the plight of the family dwell within it breaks the fourth wall to touch me. This awe inspiring movie coupled with moving songs such as “Feel Like Home” by Edwina Hayes and “Find My Way Back Home”: by Priscilla Ahn makes it a masterpiece.

News: Innocence of Muslim

One of the infamous and outrageous video by a Californaia based company “Innocence of Muslims” sparks tension flaring across muslim countries.

1. From Huffington Post

CAIRO -- Egypt's general prosecutor has issued arrest warrants for seven Egyptian Coptic Christians and a Florida-based American pastor and referred them to trial on charges linked to an anti-Islam film that has sparked riots across the Muslim world.

CAIRO -- Al-Qaida's branch in North Africa on Tuesday called for attacks on U.S. diplomats and an escalation of protests against an anti-Islam video that was produced in the United States and triggered a wave of demonstrations in Muslim countries. While demonstrations have tapered off in nations including Egypt and Tunisia, a protest against the film turned violent in Indian-controlled Kashmir and small rallies were held in Indonesia.

Freedom of expression is a basic right in Germany, but recent controversy over the anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims" has sparked a debate among lawmakers about just how far that right extends. A populist group called Pro Deutschland wants to stage a public showing of the controversial anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims," which has inspired protests and deadly attacks on American and Western diplomatic missions across the Muslim world in the last week.

3. Last but not least, the Malay Mail

WHILE denouncing the 14-minute YouTube clip “Innocence of Muslims”, Malaysia’s Islamic leaders have called on the country to avoid falling into a trap by perpetrating violence espoused by the film maker.

The trailer, uploaded in July, depicts Prophet Muhammad as a fool, murderer, womaniser, homosexual and child abuser.

The two largest Malay-based political parties — PAS and Umno — have announced they will hold a protest against the film in front of the US embassy on Friday.

While many parts of the world share this outburst, it is in our vivid thoughts that a single viral video can create a social catastrophe. Very powerful indeed though it last for 13 minutes especially on something that people share their commons on..  

Songs: Appreciate (Nick Jonas)

Nick Jonas sang this song when he was 13. 

Unbeknownst to many, Nick Jonas was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at that time and this meaningful song is a breakthrough to what a 13 years old views life. “Life is short so take time to appreciate” repeated many times in the chorus to stamp his view of appreciating life.

Up till now, Nick’s associated charities has helped countless to save people with diabetes and spread the awareness of diabetes care.

His debut album portrayed pieces of important elements of life itself. Listen to more of his song like Dear God. =) His meaningful songs will open your eyes to a new lever of clarity. Nick’s sophomore album Who I Am was released in 2010 is also worth a try to listen. Enjoy.

August 23, 2012. Secretariat helmer Randall Wallace will develop an adaptation of Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent's "Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back" at Sony Pictures, says Variety. The book is described as follows:

There was this part of the sea, filled with dangerous rocks and traps that often causes ships to sink. It was called the gra
veyard for ships.
But there was this old captian who sailed there for forty years. Then people started to ask how he did it.

Reporter : " Could you tell us how can you know all the dangerous places in that part of the sea and avoid them? Bceause the terrain is so complex and the sea is so vast. Please share with us your secret.

Old Captain: "Well, actually I don't remember all the dangerous places in that part of the sea, all I know is a safe path, and I always follow the safe path."

When we can't find the reason to our failure, maybe because there are too many reasons for it, and even if we knew, it doesn't help.

Finding the correct way is more important than dwelling in your mistakes.
Then maybe after many years, you will unintentionally get the answer that you had so wanted in the past.

Kuching, Sarawak (The Land of Hornbill)

Kuching’s Landmark

Sarawak’s age-old secrets are housed in Borneo’s oldest house of records and artifact – The Sarawak Museum. The blueprint for the original building was drafted by a French Man in 1888 but the museum only officially opened its doors in 1891. Its collection, along with its reputation, has grown steadily since and is now recognized as having the largest collection in the state.

                        

Kuching’s Street

A vibrant collage of colours and aroma greets visitors at India Street, reputedly Malaysia’s first pedestrian mall. Two rows of pre-war shops frame the ancient street, selling everything from souvenirs to fabrics, household goods, spices and gold jewellery. A tiled walkway, lined with palm trees and resting benches, separates the two rows, creating a relaxing atmosphere. Nestled between the shops is a well-known lane,  only two feet wide, which eventually leads to a mosque that was built in 1876 and is still being used today.

                            

Kuching’s Flora

This century old kapok tree is as important a landmark as the field it’s rooted in: Padang Merdeka (Independence field), the venue for all important state open-air functions and activities. Also known as the “5 O’Clock Tree” for reasons unknown, it stands solitary on one side of the field, as if upholding its position as the key witness to Kuching’s numerous historical events.

                       

Kuching’s architecture

It’s all white façade, supported by elegant, Tuscan style colonnades is a vestige of the glory days of Sir Charles Brooke, the Second Rajah of Sarawak. Within its spacious corridor, a nostalgic trail of Kuching’s legal past prevails. Built in 1874, it was then the Court House of Sarawak, housing the magistrate courts, session court and the High Court of Borneo. In 2002, it was restored to preserve its structure and the complex was expended, an exercise so successful, the Heritage of Malaysia Trust bestowed it the National Heritage Award 2004. Today, it is the Sarawak Tourism Complex, a multi-purpose venue for conference hall, meeting rooms and a performing art theatre.

1. Taylor Swift 4^th studio album Red is set to be released on October 22, 2012. Red consist of 16 songs with the debut first single from "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together",

                                          

 2. Kevin Richardson finally rejoined Backstreet Boys since leaving in 1993. On July 24, 2012, He explained that the reason he came back to the group was because he realized how much joy singing and music gives him. He mentioned that the Christmas concert he did in December 2011 helped him rediscover his love of music and how much he missed it. Backstreet Boys is now working on their 8th ablum.

                                             

 







3. Owl City (Adam Young) latest electro-pop album The Midsummer Station is going to be released on August 17, 2012.  The former's Fireflies hit song has come out new with this album by working with various artists like Stargate. One of the song in The Midsummer Station is "Good Time" is a pop uprising ballad duet with Carly Rae Jepsen, who scored a major breakthrough in the music chart with "Call Me Maybe".

All we need in life is just smile. From the New York Times bestselling author, Raina Telgemeier tells us her true life story which is documented in a book called Smile. 

Raina, who lost her two front teeth, faced a series of dental drama, including on and off braces, gum treatment, embarrassing headgear and retainer with fake teeth. She was at six grade that time and almost inevitably, she dealt with problems that were part of her life. She was trying to fit in though perceived as a nerd, she tried to be friend with some not so friendly friend, she tried to have a boyfriend and she tried to juggle her school life with family life.

Raina

Raina experienced teasing from her friends, experienced the terror San Francisco earthquake and the pain of 4 and the half years dental treatment. However, her high school turned out to be a blessing as she was able to make new friends who genuinely accept her and blend in despite being different from the typical teenagers. She stopped being embarrassed and took life at her own pace. The 213 pages of graphic novel take us from her middle school to high school life It shows how she became mature during her school life and how life make her come out stronger because there is always something worth  reminiscing in between the painful experiences.
